It's not always a thrilling thing when people find their personal photos go viral. A woman posted her hiking photos online and one selfie swept the internet afterwards due to something hidden in the background. Read on to see what's so peculiar about it!
Scaling the peaks to birdview the city of Hamilton can be quite a breathtaking experience, and that's why hikers swarm to Dundas Peak. However, the stunning wilderness seems to have something unknown to the public until a woman's photo went viral.
People climbed uphill and took selfies against the cliff-hanging rocks and a sea of colorful trees. With the background being so splendid, every photo taken here will certainly be memorable. However, it's also perilous and many people have been reported missing.
Being attracted by the peaks, a woman named Kim decided to visit there with her friend. Kim's suggestion struck an instant chord with her friend, who had also wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. As luck would have it, the cousin of Kim's friend had been there a few days earlier, and he showed them his snapshots taken on the renowned cliffs and recommended them to do so.
Having seen his photo, Kim and her friends decided to go uphills to reach the peak. After bracing themselves for the 2.4-mile hike, the woman reached the site while others were still taking pictures. After the discussion, they agreed on taking turns to pose and snapping photos. At this moment, they were still unknown of what might be lurking in their photos.
Kim's friend was the first in line, so she headed up to the rock that her cousin once sat on to get ready to pose. When Kim adjusted the camera to bring her friend into focus, she felt there was something glimmer below. She looked around, wondering what caught her eye. Then she found out that a set of keys were dangling from a branch below.
Although the branch which the keys hung from was only three feet below, the stakes are much higher if you hang it over a cliff. They gathered together to see what was happening, then she reached down to grab it. They noticed that one of the keys was for a Hyundai Elantra, assuming that they must have saved someone a lot of trouble. But who was the owner?
After they retrieved the keys, they continued to take photos. The dusk approached soon enough before they knew it, and the hiking trail seemed deserted. Having recalled the reports of the missing people, their hair stood on end. So they sprinted to the parking lot without hesitation. By then the parking lot was nearly empty except for their car and a dusty Hyundai Elantra.
It was clear that the car before their eyes belonged to the one they were looking for. They decided to wait for the owner for a few minutes to give back the keys, turning out that they were wasting their time. Without a better solution, they left the keys on the top of the car and drove away. Several days passed when Kim had already taken her mind off the keys, what she read on the news made her eyes widened in shock.
The news read that the local authorities affirmed the disappearance of the car's owner, but what happened to the owner remained unknown. Kim and her friend crossed their fingers for the stranger. Soon a month passed, and only by then did the mystery of Dundas Peak bubble up to the surface.
Kim has kept a habit of posting photos online each time she went on vacation. One day, she logged in her social media account and was surprised to find out that one photo of her friend's cousin had gone viral on Reddit. The user had spotted something in the picture that would immediately make her blood run cold.
The image of that captured the cousin at Dundas Peak seemed perfectly normal at first glance. After all, it was this image that convinced Kim and her friend with the hiking trail in the first place! The cousin stands out since he's in all black attire and the trees are mostly thin and barren. Nothing seemed special, but then they looked closer.
They zoomed in as far as they could and tried hard not to degrade the image quality at the same time. Eventually, they spotted a blurry figure in the middle of its background. It appeared to be a man in a white top and dark bottoms standing on the cliffside. Kim and her friend couldn't figure this out because they were sure that the area was basically inaccessible. So how could this be?
With the doubt in their minds, they looked back at their photos taken at the same site immediately, hoping to find proof. Oddly enough, the figure was not in any of their pictures. It couldn't be a trick of light, because they were sure enough that the photo was taken at the very spot with the same angle. Failing to get the whole picture of the events, they couldn't help thinking it was supernatural, but was their guess true?
The series of events seemed to lead to a deadend, so they had to reach out to others for help. They turned to social media, explaining the whole story in detail. Since they didn't have a ton of material to go on, the doubt that there was a person remained possible. So Kim posted a request for her followers to upload their photos of the same location to see if any other one had a similar effect. Then she waited for their responses.
With the help of Kim's followers in participating in the activity and sharing her posts, plenty of people posted their puzzle piece, trying their best to restore the whole story. However, their stories weren't the same one. Some thought that it was the haunting ghost of one missing hiker of the past. And some believed it may be a technological problem. Still others claimed that there is a trail that leads to the area the figure was seen. Which theory is authentic?
The search for the truth came to a tentative end. Finally, a Reddit user finally shined a beam of light for them. He claimed that it was them who was captured in the photo and they had been at Dundas Peak the same day that the mysterious photo was taken. Furthermore, they remembered wearing a light, grey sweater and dark jeans. The bubble finally burst.
