Never underestimate the changes that a makeover can bring about, as sometimes it's nothing short of a miracle. After a wife sent her shaggy haired ex-husband, a modern-day Gandalf with long flowing locks, to Rachael Ray, she was barely able to recognize him. So what transformation drew gasps and made him look so different? Scroll down to find out!
Ian Cook was an ordinary 54-year-old man who worked in utilities in Stamford, but with his long gray locks spilling over his shoulders and his unkempt beard, he definitely stood out. Moreover, anyone who bumped into him was likely to mistake him for Gandalf. However, Ian's family thought his appearance was less than magical...
Ian's and his ex-wife Karen are parents to 16-year-old twin sons and what's more they have lived with their mom in Milford since the couple's separation. After not getting a haircut for four years, Ian was looking quite shaggy. What was worse, his appearance had started to create an emotional distance between him and his sons.
The boys had started to get to an age where their long haired father had begun to cramp their style. Also, they felt embarrassed when they brought any girls home. While the lads were trying to be sweet, Karen decided to bring the crisis to a head, so she asked him to get a makeover on the popular Rachael Ray Show.
As far as Ian was concerned, his sons' feelings come first, and all he wanted was for them to be proud of him. "I want them to be as proud of me as I am of them," he said. As a result, he came on to the show without hesitation. His twin sons, Benjamin and Cameron, were both sitting in the front row with their mom to keep Ian company.
The show assembled a montage of photos revealing that Ian had always kept a unique hairstyle since he was young. A photo of him taken on his big day proved that Ian had been sporting a pretty shaggy hairstyle since way back when. And that wasn't the only proof.
Another key point in Ian's life was when his sons were born. This photo showed him sporting lustrous, bouffant dark locks, bangs and a matching handlebar mustache. He had always been fond of his hairstyle, so he had kept it for years.
In order to give him the makeover he deserved, the host brought in style expert Kyan Douglas. After inspecting Ian thoroughly, Kyan figured out which of Ian's features he could use to his advantage. Apparently, Ian was still a bit of a catch despite all those gray tresses.
Afterwards, Kyan explained what he'd observed to the audience in detail. Ian apparently had strong cheekbones and striking blue eyes, However, the bad thing was that Ian simply looked too furry. So what exactly was Kyan going to do with Ian?
Kyan and his team took Ian backstage instantly to get to work. While waiting for Ian to return, the audience could feel the tension in the air. They were eager to find out whether Ian's makeover had been a success or a resounding failure.
The result was incredible. A man wearing new clothing stepped out from backstage, walking confidently into the studio. Viola, it was Ian! He looked more fab without his windswept white locks and handlebar mustache, and had been transformed from Gandalf the Grey into a stunt double for George Clooney!
The audience all agreed that the new haircut and clothing did bring out the best in Ian. Ian was a tall guy, so Kyan went with hiking boots and dark denim to add some structure to his look. And it worked perfectly when paired with the military green, quilted and cropped-cut jacket.
As Ian's new look drew "oohs" and "ahs" from the audience, Rachael Ray made a quip toKaren. "I think she's rethinking that whole 'ex' thing!" she said cheekily. However, delighted with his new appealing new look, Ian was more interested in other single ladies.
When the audience began to quieten down, Rachael asked him how he felt about his new look. The answer was emphatic – Ian was delighted with his makeover. And even the host herself couldn't help but share her approval with Ian.
Now what matters most is whether Ian is going to keep this look. Ian simply said, "Yeah, I do like it." On their way back home, Ian's sons could not take their eyes off their dad and kept saying how cool he looked. Perhaps, they were a bit worried that their girls might end up with a crush on their dad!
