#1 Kim Kardashian vs. Taylor Swift: Robbery in Paris
The new video of Taylor Swift this year, “Look What You Made Me Do”, seemed to provoke a war between her and Kim Kardashian. The video pictured Swift lying in a bathtub full of jewelry, diamonds and a handful of rings, gesturing her fingers like a gun. The internet promptly pointed out that this was a recreation of Kim’s robbery in Paris. On Kim’s side, a source said that she and Kanye didn’t care about the new single and found her pathetic for keeping an old feud going.
#2 Mariah Carey vs. Jennifer Lopez: I Don’t Know Her
This is a classic battle. The story started in early 2000s, when a news reporter asked Mariah Carey about Jennifer Lopez, Mariah replied, “I don’t know her.” From that moment on, an epic feud came into the public’s sights. Later in 2015 at the Billboard Music Awards, J. Lo got pictured texting by media during Mariah’s performance. The public interpreted this action as a diss. Though J. Lo explained that she just looked down at her phone for merely 2 seconds, the conflicts between these two divas escalated anyway. Then in 2016, Mariah appeared on Andy Cohen’s live show. When Andy asked “do you know J. Lo at this time?”, Mariah paused for 1 second and rolled her eye, saying she didn’t know her like the way she knew Andy. In a word, until now, Mariah Carey still doesn’t know Jennifer Lopez.
#3 Katy Perry vs. Taylor Swift: Bad Blood
The awkward point of these two big stars’ feud is that they were once very good friends. They interacted with each other a lot on Facebook and Twitter until their catfight about a group of dancers. It’s reported that Taylor invited Katy’s dancers to join her tour, the dancers agreed but later went back Katy. Then Taylor wrote the notorious song Bad Blood which was considered an explicit diss to Katy. Katy fought back by calling Taylor “Regina George in sheep’s clothing”, but she never admitted the line “Swish Swish” in her Witness was referring to anyone in particular.
#4 Lady Gaga vs. Madonna: Reductive
The enmity between these two queens might arise from both their strong symbolism and style in their songs and videos. In 2012, Madonna compared Gaga’s “Born This Way” with her own “Express Yourself”, and said the former was “reductive” and sounded “very familiar”. In response, Gaga said that “things are really different than they were 25 years ago”. But later in 2016, Gaga explained herself one step further, “I don't mean to disrespect Madonna, she's a nice lady and she's had a fantastic huge career. She's the biggest pop star of all time.” Hope the two can make up.
#5 Taylor Swift vs. Kanye West: Who’s the Snake?
The whole Kanye-Taylor beef started when Kanye intercepted Taylor’s reception of her VMA for Best Female Video in 2009. The tension later eased in 2015 when Kanye apologized and Taylor presented him with MTV Video Vanguard Award at the same show. The feud resurfaced when Kanye released his music video “Famous” in 2016, with the lyrics "I feel like me and Taylor might still have s*x. Why? I made that b***h famous". Taylor said that she asked him not to release those kind of lyrics, but Kanye’s wife Kim took out video proof, claiming Taylor was lying.
#6 Nicki Minaj vs. Miley Cyrus: “Miley, what’s good?”
The rift was firstly between Taylor Swift and Nicki when Nicki made some comments on the VMAs nominees in 2015. Though later they buried the hatchet during the VMAs telecast, Miley got herself involved by labeling Nicki as a self-centred person during a New York Times interview. Nicki then replied Miley with 3 simple words, “Miley, what’s good?”, when they stood face-to-face on the stage of VMAs.
#7 Selena Gomez vs. Justin Bieber: The Heart Wants What It Wants
There’s a four-year off-and-on relationship between Jelena - Justin and Selena. The real feud broke out when Selena was pictured with Orlando Bloom and Bloom punched Justin in Ibiza. Then they kept talking about each other through music. It has been speculated that Selena’s song “The Heart Wants What It Wants” and Justin’s album “Purpose” were the continuation of their hate and love. Things escalated in 2016 when Selena made a comment on Justin’s rumored girlfriend Sofia Richie on Instagram. Now, Selena is happy with The Weeknd, hope they will let the past be past.
#8 Mariah Carey & Nicki Minaj: Extra Security?
The conflict between Mariah and Nicki could trace back to 2012 when they were both invited as the judges of American Idol. There’s rumor that they didn’t get along from the start and things finally became clear during the auditions. Mariah revealed to the public that she might hire extra security to protect her from Nicki, indicating that Nicki threatened to shoot her. Nicki then tweeted about this, claiming that Mariah was making use of people’s stereotypes about rappers. The feud didn’t go on since Nicki said that Mariah is one of her favourite artists. But don’t deem this as a permanent peace between them.
#9 Madonna vs. Elton John: The Worst Bone Tune Ever
The friendship of these two big stars soured in 2002, when Elton described Madonna’s “Die Another Day” as “the worst Bond tune ever”. Later in 2004, Elton alleged that singers who lip-synced like Madonna should be shot. In 2012, Elton further made public comments on Madonna, depicting her as a “fairground stripper”. Elton claimed in 2016 that their feud had eventually settled down, but Madonna didn’t give any response. Who knows what he will do in future.
#10 Zayn Malik vs. Naughty Boy: You Fat Joke
Zayn and Mr. Boy were besties in early 2015. But soon after their recording sessions, Zayn described Naughty Boy as “you fat joke”. In response, Mr. Boy exposed his 22-year-old co-worker’s childish behaviour to The Guardian. But later in 2016, Mr. Boy admitted on an interview with Radio One Xtra that Zayn has “an incredible voice”. Maybe they have buried the hatchet now.
#11 Rihanna vs. Ciara: Happy Ending
Both RiRi and CiCi launched their career in 2005, and the friendship of these two outstanding R&B singers started at day one. But things changed. In 2011, they got some issues at a party, and then it went with the notorious Twitter exchanges.
“Rihanna - My bad Ci, did I forget to tip you?
Ciara - Trust me Rihanna you don't want to see me on or off the stage.
Rihanna - You gangsta huh?... Good luck with booking that stage you speak of.”
Luckily, they settled down later by apologizing to each other.
#12 Sinéad O’Connor vs. Pope John Paul II: Tear His Photo on Live
Their fight were actually related to a very serious social problem - child abuse. In 1992, Irish singer Sinéad O’Connor tore a photo of Pope John Paul II during her appearance on Saturday Night Live, against the child abuse issue at the Catholic Church. The Pope didn’t give much comments on O’Connor’s ballsy move, but O’Connor’s career was tragically influenced.
#13 Aretha Franklin vs. Patti LaBelle: Ignore You
These two reigning divas exposed their alleged feud at a White House concert, celebrating Women of Soul. Aretha Franklin threw epic shade at Patti LaBelle while she walked into a crowd ovation. In the clip above, you can clearly see how Aretha snatched her hand away from Patti’s outstretched hand. Although a source revealed that these two soul queens eventually hugged each other after Patti’s performance at that concert, no one could say the hatchet has been buried.
#14 Jay Z vs. Nas: Who’s Whose Stan?
These two rap titans had fought with each other for almost a decade. They started their war behind lyrics. In 2001, Jay Z released “Take Over” to mock Nas’ career, describing him as a “brutally honest fan”. In response, Nas released “Ether” the same year, calling Jay Z a “stan” and questioning his loyalty to Biggie Smalls, another great rapper. Thankfully, the two eventually took a step back on both sides, and the feud ended in friendship.
#15 Lil' Kim vs. Nicki Minaj
In 2010, Nicki’s debut album Pink Friday garnered great success, and this seemed to piss Lil’ off. Lil’ released a diss track call “Black Friday”, describing Nicki as a nobody who wanted to clone her style. Nicki promptly responded with the song “Stupid Hoe”, mocking that Lil’s records were “crusty” and “busted”.
